Betty & I had quite a tight schedule between the Spring Rally and the Columbia, MO Rendezvous and therefore we did not have time to write a news letter. Our Spring Rally was rather quiet due to our north Alabama contingent unable to attend for various reasons, the most important of which was required visits to doctors. Attending were the Whitakers, Carl Spanyer, Smiths, Hilliards, Whites, Robertsons, Gilmores, Bud Burgess and new members Karen & John Glisson.
We all had a great time enjoying the breakfasts prepared by the Sam & Ginny Whitaker and Freddie & Regina Smith. Also we had planned dining out on Friday and Saturday. Those absent were missed and we will look forward to seeing all of you in September at Joe Wheeler State Park.
At the Winter Rendezvous in Columbia, MO, were the Whitakers, Whites, and Gilmores. Whitakers had to leave early due to illness of Ginny's brother. Whites also had to leave early due to a death in the family at Cullman, AL.
We hope all of you have a great summer planned with lots of travel due to the low cost of fuel!!! And you know if I heard from you guys sometimes with news, I would be happy to relay it to everyone here in the newsletter.

The Arizona Unit’s Spring Rally held in Camp Verde Arizona in April, allowed us to meet and enjoy “Cater Jays” fine cuisine. Jay, the help in the kitchen is always appreciated. The hearty group explored Montezuma’s Castle, Montezuma’s Well and the many ancient ruins found in this area. The one question of why these ancient people left the area has remained elusive for many eons, however, one suggestion surfaced as a plausible answer. This was that these people left because they could find no reliable “WI- FI” in the area.
Other areas explored of course, were the many fascinating sights in and around the Sedona area. Those at this rally were Jay & Susan Engroff, Tom & Donna Masterson, Jim & Carol Davis, Harvey & Mary Plunkett, and Jack & Diane Ernest. At the conclusion of the rally the Davises and Ernests caravanned to Columbia MO for the Winter Rendezvous. The Plunketts left a day ahead of us to blaze the trail. This trip, both going and returning proved to be quite an adventure for we encountered both a blizzard and rain going and wind on the return trip. The rendezvous was, as always, a very enjoyable event with the renewing of old friendships and the meeting of new friends.
The Arizona Unit Tucson group has suspended the monthly luncheons until further notice. As our unit strengthens in numbers we look forward to once again scheduling luncheons
June Critter Report:
From time to time we mention the cast of critters, so at the request from some readers of this on going novel: Here are the main characters, not necessarily in order of importance ”Nick the Stick” is a Western Diamond Back Rattlesnake Crotalus atrox. “Roberta” is a Bobcat Felis rufus. “Sally” is a Roadrunner Geococcyx californianus, “Hummer” is a Broad-Tailed Hummingbird Selasphorus platycerus. “Whitney” is an Elf Owl Micrathene whitneyi. There are countless additional cameo actors in this on-going saga.
Now that you have more information than needed, let me bring you up to date. While most winged visitors are now busy with nest building or doing nest sitting duty the Gambel’s quail are daily visitors showing off their offspring teaching them where to locate a meal and how to fly. A Ladder-backed Woodpecker managed to hollow out a nest in a Mesquite tree, and is now busy keeping the nest warm.
Dates in June to remember:
June 9 Donald Ducks Birthday (1934), June 14 Father’s day, June 17 Watergate Arrests Anniversary (1972), June 19 Garfield’s Birthday (1978) and June 29 Olympic National Park Anniversary (1938).

The California Unit has been busy and on the road. Four unit members traveled to Columbia, MO for the Winter Rendezvous in April: Jim & Carol Davis, Leon & Myrna Mendenhall, Harvey & Mary Plunkett (formerly OR Unit, now CA), and Mike & Kathy Sexton. The rendezvous was lots of fun with tours, bike trail rides, golf (freezing weather), and of course, fun, food and fellowship. Our congratulations to Harvey Plunkett for being sworn in as the new International FTC President, Jim Davis as our new Southwest Region Governor, Sherry Paskey as the new Club Manuals Chairperson (see what happens when you don’t attend?), Myrna Mendenhall as a member of the Finance committee, Mike Sexton as a member of the by-laws rewrite committee, and big congratulations to Gale Hubert who was unanimously approved as the new International Executive Secretary succeeding Carol Davis in 2009. California is well-represented on the International level, and a big thank you to everyone for saying “yes” when asked.
After the rendezvous, all four couples headed in different directions. The Plunketts to their new house in Yuma, AZ, the Davises and Mendenhalls to visit relatives and the Sextons sight-seeing through the Dakotas (including sitting out the recent spring blizzard in the Badlands), then joining Ray & Rae Ruana in Burnaby, BC at the combined WA & OR Unit Rally with 62 other people for five great days and lots of good food.
The May Inland Empire luncheon in Moreno Valley was attended by Bud & Dot Ansevics, Jim & Carol Davis and Floyd & Gale Hubert and they all spent the time planning their trip to the CA Spring Rally in Calistoga.
The CA Unit Rally in Calistoga begins on May 30th and continues until June 3rd. We have 21 rigs coming, including the Abramsons from BC. We’re looking forward to a good time and seeing our friends in CA and catching up with their news. Look for more news in the next Unit newsletter, which will be the August issue.

A number of Florida Units took part in a Rolling Rally on the way to the Winter Rendezvous in Columbia MO. Cathy Stallings had organized a super schedule of locations and events. Unit Members attending some or all of the locations were: Bill & Chris Catron, Leo & Linda Woodard, Bill & Shirley Clark, Chuck & Fran Blanchet, Charlie & Jenova Hoelscher, Frank & Vickie Bernard, Roy & Dee Manor, Jack & Bonnie Gardner, and Mike & Cathy Stallings. A highlight of the trip was Lambert's Restaurant, "the Home of the Throwed Rolls". Some of those waiters really had an arm on them. In spite of the changing weather everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. We had such a good time that we are planning another Rolling Rally to the Fall Rendezvous in San Antonio, Texas this October and one to Virginia next Spring.

Georgia

Our Georgia Spring Rally in Statesboro was a great success. However, without our visitors, attendance would have been slim. Those attending were Addisons, Kings, Fulmers and Johnsons from Georgia, Hilliards and Johnston from Alabama, Stumps from North Carolina, Tuttles from West Virginia and buddies Jere & Marion Key. The Fulmers arrived in an SOB that they had purchased in Perry while attending "The Rally".
Bobby & Carrie Shepard were unable to attend the Winter Rendezvous in Columbia, MO because the doctor would not give Carrie the OK. They did attend the Alabama Rally starting May 14. Bobby & Joyce Williams towed their Silver Avion to Cayo's in Michigan for repairs to damaged aluminum on the side of the rig. While there they had several other things updated. Hopefully, their health has improved to the point that they will be able to do some serious camping.
The Georgia Unit had only two rigs, the Johnsons and McNaneys, at the Columbia Rendezvous, but we managed to have a good time with the 102 rigs that were present! Come on now, plan to be at the Texas Rendezvous this fall so we have a better showing. We found out at the Rendezvous that Shirley McNaney's oldest sister had passed away in March. Belated and sincere condolences go out to Shirley and the rest of her family
Our Fall Georgia/South Carolina joint rally will be September 24-28 at Camp Harmony, 2063 Harmony Road, Elberton, GA 30635. Make plans to attend. Early arrival will be OK. The camping fee is only $12.00 per night for water & 30 amp electric. Details will be on the website in August and Georgia members and associate members will get a written schedule.
Suzanne King called and said she was feeling great and they were at Moccasin Creek State Park in North Georgia for two weeks of fishing. Phil & Francene Fretwell arrived back from their around the world cruise "with sore eyes from all that looking" and slight colds from several days of cool sailing. They plan on visiting in the Atlanta area soon.
'til August,
Tom & Janis

We had 10 units attending the Winter Rendezvous in Columbia, MO. Those attending were: Ann & Jim Collins, Robert & Lanell Foreman, Sandi & Don Fowler, (nice to see our new Fleetwood friends again and look forward to seeing them again next year), Bill & Roberta Jaynes, Fred & Fran McKinnon, Byron & Nora Peters, Faith & Terry Sorensen, Wayne & Ellen Spencer, Addie & Hank Weast and the Weithorns. Even though the weather was not very cooperative, everyone enjoyed the fellowship and of course all of the good food.
The group of Ellen Spencer, Nora Peters, Faith & Terry Sorensen and Bernie Weithorn went on the 13 mile bike ride along the Missouri River. All returned with no injuries; just very tried. Another fun day was the cruise on the Lake of the Ozarks. Our weather was just perfect!
Congratulations to Faith & Terry Sorensen as they ended their year at International President and turned the reins over to Harvey & Mary Plunkett. Thanks to both of you for a job well done.
We are looking forward to the West Central Roundup in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa in early June and hope to see many of you from the IL Unit. If you need information contact Joyce Wilson to register. Her phone number is (563) 649-2235 and her email is joycwlsn@Lcom.net.
The August Buddy Rally will be held August 5-7 at the Illinois Starved Rock State Park. Flyers will be mailed out in July by the Spencers. If you need information on this rally, please contact Ellen & Wayne Spencer at (217) 287-1447.

Our unit was proudly represented at the Winter Rendezvous in Columbia, Missouri by six members: Bob & Thelma Gibson, Rita Moss, Lloyd & Louise Smith, and Lanny Williams. An extra special thank you goes to Rita and Lanny for their extra efforts to attend after early mechanical problems forced them to return home for a day, and they persevered arriving a day late. Rita even learned to play Joker after years of reluctance to do so.
Thank you to the Missouri Unit led by Robert & Gerry Lorenz for hosting such a wonderful rendezvous. The tours were great, other activities were well planned, and the food was wonderful.
We welcome new members, Harrison & Donna Hopkins, who we are looking forward to meeting soon. New members are the life blood of our club.

Well, it’s finally spring here. Driving down the roads you can see the farmers tilling, the tulips are budding and the golfers are practicing their swearing. Spring is a wonderful time of year and it’s time to get together for our outings. Pauline West has the Spring Buddy Rally already organized. As of now about 12 couples will be there to meet and have good fun and fellowship.
A few members were able to attend the Winter Rendezvous in Missouri. I understand all the tours were filled and members had a great time. Our President, Dick Parker and his wife, Carol, will bring all the news back to us. Hoping all the news is good news.
Dennis & Carolyn Wright are still trying to get Bayshore Campgrounds, near Bay City for the Fall Rally. But at this time, I’m sorry there is no definite date. The plans are for September, but the calendar has to be checked at Bayshore.
Someone will need to be the host for the Summer Rally in July. Don & I will be leaving for Oregon on July 9th for 2 weeks. Please contact Doris at (989) 728-2898 or Pauline West at (248) 701-3006 if you are interested in helping organize this outing.
Many of us will be busy these next few weeks with graduations, showers and weddings. Congratulations to any sons, daughters, grandchildren of members who may be celebrating. Al & Mary Brookshire took the long way home after being winter snowbirds. They arrived safely home but the weather was a little cool yet for them. Haven’t heard from any of the other snowbirds to know how they experienced the winter in the South or West. But the group is looking forward to seeing them at the Buddy Rally on May 11th at St. Louis.
Dates to Remember:

News from Nebraska: Everyone is back home for the summer; Bev & Gene Russell, Bev & Bob Ratekin, Bev & Dick Johnson and Larry & Loreene Lane all spent the winter in Florida. Bev & Dick Johnson bought a park model this trip so they won't be taking their 5th wheel back and forth each year.
Three of our members attended the Winter Rendezvous in Columbia, MO: Larry & Loreene Lane, Bev & Dick Johnson and Mel & Myrt Hinrichs. Everyone had a good time in spite of the rain and the cold.
We will have our Spring Rally with the Iowa Unit, June 2-5. This will be held at Mt. Pleasant, IA at the J & J Campground. That will do it for this time from the Nebraska Unit.

Members of the North Carolina Unit enjoyed a great Spring Rally in the Valley of Virginia at Natural Bridge April 9-13. The weather was excellent. Four wonderfully warm spring days were sandwiched between cold spells before and after the rally. The sun was shining and the redbud was blooming. Those in attendance were Ron & Nancy Frank, Pam & Bill East, Marlis & Hermann Stump, Undine & Willie Lamm, Linda & Aldin Segrest, and Karlene & Juliene Wills. Olin & Thelma Morris and Ned & Rosemary Morris from the Virginia Unit also joined us. Guests were Joyce & Larry Slusser who we hope will join our Unit.
On Thursday morning the group was led by a very informative guide on a walking tour of historical Lexington. On Friday we explored Natural Bridge, ate seafood at the renowned Natural Bridge Hotel and saw an inspirational light show at the Bridge that night. Saturday we enjoyed good food and fellowship at a potluck dinner. Those unable to attend missed a great week. Our Fall rally will probably be held early in October for those who want to go from there to the Fall Rendezvous in San Antonio, Texas. We welcome any suggestions for a location from our members.
The following week the Franks, Easts and Stumps traveled to Columbia, Missouri for the Winter Rendezvous. Ginny & Charlie McPherren traveled to Missouri from Texas, and were going from there back to North Carolina for the summer. The Easts and Franks left Missouri to travel to Wyoming for the Rocky Mountain Rolling Rally in June. The Lamms will join us in South Dakota on their way to Wyoming.
We had a great time at the rendezvous in Missouri. We toured Jefferson City and cruised the Lake of the Ozarks. There was wonderful entertainment during the week, and as always lots of Fun, Food and Fellowship. The Fall rendezvous will be in San Antonio, TX October 5-11. Check the Fleetwood Club website for details. We hope you will make plans to attend. If you can’t make it to Texas, plan to attend the 2009 Winter Rendezvous in Urbanna, VA next April.
We haven’t heard from any other members, so that’s all the news for now.

Greetings from Beautiful Ohio.
The sun is shining, the air is warm and soft, and the sky is blue. We are so blessed.
The Ohio Unit attended the Winter Rendezvous in Columbia Missouri. We had seven rigs there and we all had a great time. Our congratulations and thanks to Bob & Gerry Lorenz and all of their volunteers for their work, time and energy. Great Job!
Cal & Lee Brehm presented the Helping Hand Award to Ron & Louise Gossard. Ron & Louise are always willing to lend a hand to someone both in the Fleetwood Travelcade Club and in their community. They have held many offices in the Ohio Unit and in the International arena.
The Ohio Unit Fall Buddy Rally is September 8-12, 2008 at Baylor Beach Park in Navarre, Ohio.
The Ohio Unit is having a luncheon on September 23, 2008 at the Hometown Buffet in North Canton. Due to scheduling conflicts the luncheon in Findlay is cancelled this year, but will be scheduled in the fall of 2009.
Safe Travels until we meet again.

Spring is here and today was more like summer than spring for it was in the 90's and just a week ago the tornadoes swept through Northeast Oklahoma, in Pitcher and surrounding areas. Our hearts and prayers go out to those involved for the area looks like it was totally blown away.
This has been a somewhat busy time for our Oklahoma Fleetwood Travelcade Club members. It started in April with a co-joined State Rally with the Arkansas Unit in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The hospitality of our Arkansas friends was wonderful and we appreciate all the meals, games and just sitting around and getting reacquainted. There were four Oklahoma units at the rally and we all had a great time. From Hot Springs we all traveled to the Winter Rendezvous in Columbia, Missouri where, once again, it was good to see so many friends and catch up on all the latest news. However, the big news for our Unit was at the end of the Rendezvous we won the traveling trophy. Those enjoying the surprise were Jim & Peggy Clubb, Wanda Berry, John & MaryLu Ehrle, Ebb & Ginny Cox, John & Dorothy Conley and Bill & Nellie Pennington.
This past week we enjoyed a campout at Natural Springs State Park in Northeast Oklahoma. It was a terrific time of campfire building and tending, walks around the park and lots of good food.
Jerry & Shelby Brown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 19th with a party hosted by their children and we heard it was a beautiful party.
Mark your calendar for the OK Fall State Rally to be held at Greenleaf state park at Braggs, Oklahoma on September 14-17.

We are attending the WA/OR Spring Rally in Canada. Ken & Carolyn Abramson have done a wonderful job of planning this rally. We have had very informative tours, good speakers and the very best of meals, so in other words lots of great Food, Fun and Fellowship. The first couple of days were a little damp but then the sun came out and we have had beautiful days.
Oregon Members attending are Burdell & Mable Ann Borchardt, Dave & Lynn Coleman, Ed & Carol Fox, Michael & Cathy Lamothe, Dan & Shirley Roberts, Roland & Marilyn Vorrath, Lane & Mary Widmark and LaVerne & Norma Edwards. Oregon Buddy's included Tony & Phyllis Anusich, Dick & Carol Eckhart, Wayne & Sarah Gabel and Jess & Annie Halstead.
The Winter Rendezvous held in Columbia, MO is history now and I called International President Harvey Plunkett & Mary. They tell me that there were 101 rigs attending and that it was a good rendezvous. Harvey tells me that committees are working and there will be interesting happenings coming.
News from our Oregon members:
Our Oregon members still in Yuma at this writing are Herb & Marge Christensen, Gerald & Linda Lavy. Both couples plan to head for Oregon in late May. It will take the Lavys a little longer to reach Oregon as they are stopping by Kansas to visit family on their way home.
We are busy planning our Oregon Fall Rally. It will be in Salem at The Hee Hee Illahee RV Park. Mark your calendars for Sept 17-20, 2008. We hope you will plan on attending. We want every member, buddy or friend to be there with us. Call me anytime if you have any questions. 541-767-0422
We hope you have a wonderful summer.
Till next time, Fleetwood Hugs,

George & Mary Biller thoroughly enjoyed a six week tour of Australia and New Zealand. They reported gas was $1.80/liter or about $7.20/gallon. Wow! Guess we shouldn't complain so much ourselves.
Joyce & Clarence Connor are staying busy caring for his 96 year old mother and trying to get home care assistance for her in her own home. Knute & Joan Cotton have been camping in Boise, ID and report the weather has been real chilly at night. They continue to keep busy with their volunteer work.
Bob & Helen Freer have been camping in their new trailer and are enjoying the experience. Bob has willingly taken over the duties of Treasurer for our Unit.
Bob & Clara Lee, Gary Mort and Mike Jones have all recently returned home from the Winter Rendezvous in Columbia, MO. It was great to be represented by them.
Harry & Betty Peterson returned from a wonderful 12 day trip to Hawaii on the Islands of Kauai and Oahu (Honolulu) where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They did lots of touring, swimming, snorkeling and eating (of course)! They are camped now in Tucson, AZ getting the Avion body work completed after their tire blowout, as well as having the truck get some maintenance issues completed. Soon they will be heading for Denver, CO to leave their trailer there while they fly to Seattle to begin a Cruise to Alaska with members of their high school class who are all turning the big 7-0 this year. As Harry & Betty are both classmates there will be lots of celebrating going on. What a fun year for them!
We're saddened to hear of Tom Robert's need to resign as our Treasurer due to serious health problems. Best wishes go out to you Tom, from all of us.
There are 19 rigs signed up for our Rocky Mountain Unit Rolling Rally to the Wild West beginning on June 14th in Cody, WY. We're all looking forward to a great time together.
We hope you are enjoying the warming weather and the beauty of Creation as we see everything begin to bloom and the returning birds singing so sweetly.
Safe travels to all.

As this newsletter is being written, our Spring Rally hasn't been held. It's May 21-24 and we're hoping we'll have a few more who haven't responded.
Gene & Pam Brannock replied that they are still working so were unable to attend. Sonny & Dawn Hallman can't make it either as they told us at the Holiday Luncheon they're still “on the clock” so to speak but would make an effort to get together with us whenever possible. Claire & Kathy Stewart (although' they no longer have trailer-at present) said they'd be in Denver for a family 50th anniversary. We really do miss them not traveling as they could always be counted on for whatever was going on.
Ron & Rev Bobbie Taylor were on vacation 4/30-5/11 so they had promised to “cat sit” for a neighbor who was “dog sitting” for them while they were away. We know that they are both very busy with church business, too. They hoped we'd have good weather. We did hear from John & Johnnie Melton who said if they were able to make it, they would be walk-ins. Dan & Anne Fletcher are in the mountains in NC for the spring and summer but something she wrote makes me think they may see us on the 23rd. Hope so anyhow!
We know for sure that Jim & Billie Barton plan to be with us. They have sold their home and were to move 4/25. About the same time, their office building burned down so they are really up in the air. Maybe they'll be able to relax at the rally as we don't have a lot planned. Sandy & Maryann Lempert will come in earlier in the week so they can get rested up and enjoy the scenery before the balance of the folks arrive.
We are pleased to announce we have a new member family, Joseph & Sarah Johnston of Walterboro. Harry has spoken with Joseph and we're hoping, if possible, they'll be able to attend. We'll let you know more next time!
That's it for now. Hope I'll have more to write about next time.
Until then Safe Travels

HEART O TEXAS
THE HEART O' TEXAS group had its monthly meeting at the Oxford Street Restaurant and Pub in Bryan on Friday, March 28th. Present were the Drums, Grimms, Roberts, Rouners, and Brennens. Two former members, the Watsons, who sold their Fleetwood rig in favor of another brand were on hand as guests.
The usual collection was taken for the dog fund and since no real new business was on the table for discussion, we all had a nice visit. All attending members except for the Grimms will be on hand for the upcoming rally in Sanger.
Since some of us have other commitments, there will be no meeting in May. Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be held at the Oxford Street Restaurant and Pub on Friday, June 27.

Well it is time for the Washington news and I can't believe two months have passed. It certainly has been an event filled time. We went to the Winter Rendezvous in Columbia, MO and had a memorable time. Tom & Marnie Opstad, Steve Bancroft and Ken & I traveled in a mini convoy, making sure to stop early each evening so there was time for an all important Happy Hour. We arrived safely and the busy round of activities began. We did a tour of Jefferson City and it included the Governor's residence and, much to our surprise, the Governor was there. It is a magnificent structure. We also had a grand cruise on the Lake of the Ozarks and had an opportunity to see how the other half lives.
Most amazing was the flowering redbuds. They were at their peak as were the dogwood trees. Such beauty !!! We thank the wonderful Fleetwood Travelcade Club members for all of their hard work.
The travels were not without excitement, that is for sure! On May first we ran into a snow storm which turned the I-80 stretch between Rawlings and Rock Springs, Wyoming into an ice rink and then a parking lot. We traveled for three hours to get over that 67 miles. Fortunately we were headed west and so there was very little climbing necessary. The people traveling east were not as lucky and so there were stalled semi's everywhere. We found out that the freeway was closed later in the day. One particularly hair raising incident had us watching a big rig in front of us as it tried to stay upright. For what seems to be forever he struggled to stay on the road. We are happy to report that he was successful. We were so close behind him that if he lost it we were certain to run into him. But our guardian angel was on duty and we arrived home safely.
This week we are busy finalizing everything for the Burnaby Rally. By the time you read this the rally will be over and you are so sorry that you missed it. It was a most memorable rally and I am certain that a good time was had by all. We didn't reach our goal of 100 butts in Burnaby but the 66 butts that did come are thanked profusely. So much fun and so many memories were had and that is what this club is about, Fun, Food and Fellowship.
Tom Opstad arrived home to a not so friendly welcome from his cat. The cat bit him and so he is now on antibiotics. But on a much happier note, Tom & Marnie became great grand parents. Little Violet Grace is now a most welcomed member of the family.
Carolyn
